How many people will be taking part in a trekking group? ?

We need minimum 3 persons in a group. Maximum is 6-7 persons. We try to complete the group. This should be no problem in high season. In case we can’t complete, we can organise a private trek. Especially in low season you may be on your own. In this case we have to charge extra.

When is high season/low season?

High season starts in June, low season is from November to May.

Will we see orangutan?

The chance to see orang utans is high. But of course we can’t guarantee as it is wild life. Our guides are experienced and know the different territories. Normally we never miss out. The orangutan you will 'probably' meet are a mix out of semi wild and of course wild born orangutans.

Will we see tigers?

There are still some tigers in the Gunung Leuser National park. However the chance to see them is very low. Even on a long term trek.

Which language do the guides speak?

Is it possible to pay by credit card?

Unfortunately we don’t have a credit card system.

Can we pay in foreign currency?

It is possible to pay also in Euros or US Dollar. We will check the rate with the money changer in Bukit Lawang. Please note: the money changer will only accept “good looking” notes.

Are there ATM machines in Bukit Lawang?

There are ATM machines in Bukit Lawang. There is a ATM in the village Bohorok. Around 15 km from Bukit Lawand for Mastercard and Maestro (sometimes out o order). It is better to bring enough cash. If you choose our private pick up service the driver will stop on the way for an ATM.

How much deposit do we have to pay and what is your cancellation policy?

``The deposit we ask for is usually around 100 euros, but of course it depend on what your total reservation is. Our set cancellation policy is as follows: 6 weeks before - 55% refund 4 weeks before - 40% refund 2 weeks before - 25% refund 1 week before - 10% refund Afterwards - no refund``

How to get to On the Rocks?

One of our team member will pick you up in the village Bukit Lawang. He will carry one big luggage for free. If you need help with other bags he can organise porters. They will charge you 50.000 IDR per big bag.

What would you recommend to take to Bukit Lawang?

Mosquito repellent, torch or head light, hiking shoes, cash, waterproof bag, bright clothes.

Are any of the treks suitable for children?

Everything is possible. We often take families into the jungle. Our guides are experienced. We choose an easier route, also we will take extra care. It is possible to tailor-made the treks.

Does the trek includes the feeding platform?

No it doesn’t. The chance to see the orang utan in the real wild is higher than at the feeding platform. Also it is much nicer to see them in their natural surrounding without feeding them.

Is Bukit Lawang a Malaria risk zone?

Bukit lawang is considered a safe zone as far as malarial is concerned (although the possibility cannot be completely ruled out), that does not mean that there are no mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are most active during dusk and at night. And are attracted to dark colour, which is why we suggest our quest to wear brighter coloured clothes.

When to go to Bukit lawang?

There is no real season to visit Bukit Lawang. The rainy season means it will rain – but generally only in the later afternoon and evening.

Can we buy medicine in a pharmacy in Bukit Lawang?

There are several pharmacies in the nearby village of Gotong Royong. They can supply basic antibiotics, painkiller, bandages and other low-cost medicines. It is recommended that if you need any specific medicine that you bring it with you in case.
